Neuromuscular Therapy
Neuromuscular Therapy was developed
by Stanley Leif. The body's loss of mobility and accompanying pain, caused by trauma, disease, stress, postural
deviations or poor nutrition, can affect other areas of the body which compensate for these restrictions, causing more neuromuscular
dysfunction. NMT identifies the areas of abnormality, manipulates the tissue and its tendonous attachments to normalize
its function and utilizes Travell's trigger point work to identify areas where pain is being referred. NMT uses
gliding, direct pressure, skin rolling and stretching to interrupt the pathophysiological reflex arc at the sight of the injury
and referral areas. The noxious nerve activity subsides, allowing the muscle to relax and return the reflex arc to normal.
